The certificate of trademark state registration is issued for a period of 10 years and is valid within the territory of the Russian Federation. Once this period expires, there is a question of the renewal of the trademark certificate for another next ten-year period. In accordance with article 1491 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation the trademark right holder (a legal entity of various organizational and legal forms and forms of ownership or an individual entrepreneur) has the right to renew the certificate for the next period. In case of non-renewal of the trademark certificate, the federal executive authority for intellectual property - the Federal Institute for Industrial Property (FIPS, Rospatent) will terminate it.
